About Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney is a United States based aerospace manufacturer, developing various products for companies and industries worldwide. Pratt & Whitney was first established in 1925 by entrepreneur Frederick Rentschler and his partners, and they also received aid from Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool. Initially, the company focused on the development of aircraft engines, first releasing the R-1340 Wasp. This engine proved very useful for the United States Navy, and a subsequent model was soon released which was also met with success. To this day, the Wasp series of engines still finds use for agricultural aircraft.
With their growing popularity, Pratt & Whitney began to expand upon their operations, introducing air cooled, radial aircraft engines. In 1929, Pratt & Whitney merged together with other similar businesses, forming the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation (UATC). Under the newly formed UATC, Pratt & Whitney retained their name. Over the years, UATC renamed themselves twice, first establishing themselves as United Aircraft Corporation and then UTC. In 2020, Raytheon Company merged with UTC, and Pratt & Whitney became a subsidiary of the newly formed Raytheon Technologies. Currently, Pratt & Whitney focuses on various defense contracts, as well as develops products for aerospace and electricity generation.
